I have found this to be the best of three different after-market TPMS that I've tried. This valve attachment location has proven more durable than the band technique. The simultanous four-time readout is more user-friendly than those readouts that require a button to be pushed repeatedly to change among multiple tires. Excellent product, works exactly as described.
After having read reviews and researched Hella TC-400 and Orange Electronic P409s kits, I decided on the P409s because it is less expensive, less complicated to install, displays 4 tire pressure readings simultaneously and has one small display unit (vs a display unit AND receiver that the TC-400 requires).I installed the sensors myself onto brand new 18" BMW aluminum alloys and had my shop use a dial-type torque wrench to torque the valves (included in the kit) down to 4 newton meters (~35 inch pounds), exactly as the Orange Electronic P409s manual states. If you don't have a dial type torque wrench (not clicker), then you'll need one to install this kit. I then had them mount the tires on and as soon as they pressurized the tires, the sensors turned on.The kit includes absolutely everything you need: valve cores, valve stems, valve stem caps that say (sensor inside), and sensors. This one gets only 4 1/2 stars because depending on where you place it, the display might not be readable in bright light conditions. However, the audible alarm will promptly alert you of anything headed south with your tire pressures.(UPDATE Dec 04, 2011: As of this date, I still own this Subaru and have put an ADDITIONAL 100,000 miles on it since the failure of the center differential that was suspected of being caused by one chronically low tire over the first 80,000+ miles under the most extreme of driving conditions with no hint of the second differential encountering a similar issue.While the potential consequences for damaging an expensive drive line component in an AWD system due to one low tire would appear to be arguable in theory as discussed by one knowledgeable commenter, the tolerances in today's AWD systems... First I would like to say that for those of you suggesting I get "real tire chains"... I have 2 pair that I've managed to get onto my tires exactly... never. If you'd like to buy 2 pair of 17" snow chains cheap just leave me a message, you can have 'em. "Real tire chains" might be great for some people, but if I can't get them on and off my car quickly and easily, they are useless to me.I live 1400 feet up a 2 and a half mile dirt/gravel road that stays ice and snow covered for weeks after there is no snow anywhere else in our county. I am a small business owner, so if I can't get to work, I don't get paid, simple as that. I needed a product that was easy for a 40+ year old woman to get on and off by herself 6 days a week.For the last 3 winters I have been using Spikes-Spiders, which I actually think is a fairly good product as well, but after being put thru the rigors of mountain life, many of the plastic components of the Spikes-Spiders were beginning to... Excellent Engineering, but did not fit my wheels
I couldn't wait to get these, given Seattle's unexpected week of ice. The chains fit several tire sizes with clear instructions for removing 0 - 4 sizing clips for each size (all four for my 225/50-R17). These are as easy on/off as this video shows (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opugSM6xs58). No need to get knees wet, or lay on the ground.The chains ride only on the tread and not on the back of the wheel/tire, requiring no inside clearance. The thin cable chains add only about 10mm to the top clearance. The ice grips are aggressive and the chain angles will provide lateral slide resistance.The set came with the tools needed to remove the clips and mount the lugs. The clips are put on from the factory with something like "Lock-tite". Recommend a 7mm socket to replace the wrench and your own good set of metric Allen wrenches (3mm).Only problem was the lug locking mechanism was too shallow to fit my deeply recessed lugs on the standard wheels... Works as advertised, but check your lugnut/bolt size
The K-22s work just as advertised. It takes a little extra effort the first time or two, but once you get used to the system, these are the easiest chains to put on you'll ever own. The traction seems VERY good, and the chains tighten around the tire perfectly. It almost feels like they are part of the tire (which means them off sometimes takes a little effort - just be sure you have some gloves you don't mind getting a bit dirty)I drive a car with 21mm lugnuts. These ship with 17 and 19mm fittings, so be sure that if you have a car with larger lugnuts you get the adapter. (Prius owners, this means you). They are available from [...] if Amazon is sold out.I haven't had these for very long, but they seem to be very high quality. The warranty is 1 year, but I would expect them to last much longer. David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN drove the Eads Farms/Hardy & Associates Warrior to victory on Saturday night in the Spring Nationals 40 for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series at Albany Motor Speedway in Albany, GA. Gentry took... NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point leader and Wright Turf Farms Fast Qualifier Dennis “Rambo” Franklin of Gaffney, SC finished third in the AES Racing Special after leading the first 18 laps of the race. Chris Cantrell of Chester, SC finished eighth to earn the VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Race Award after coming back from a cut tire on lap two. Franklin leads the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings in the run for the NeSmith Cup with 466 points, but Franklin said he would be unable to compete for the championship due to his super late model schedule this season. Turner is second in the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series standings with 432 points, and holds a six point advantage over Gentry heading into next weekend’s competition at Malden Speedway in Malden, MO on Friday night, and at Clayhill... Unfortunately, according to NASCAR RnR’s very own Matt Weaver who has photo evidence BTW, it was a flat right tire that caused Hornish to swerve right as Patrick was approaching on in the outside lane. Patrick didn’t know about the flat tire when it happened so she reacted like one would if someone turned right forcing their car into the wall. Looking at Danica’s POV at the time of the initial incident it appeared that Hornish deliberately turned right and forced Patrick into the wall and I think Danica acted appropriately. I also think she was right in driving into Hornish after – especially with their history – maybe not wrecking him like she did but she has to show everyone she is not going to be a push over and lay down because she is a women. What would have happened if Hornish hadn’t been able to steer it after hitting the wall and caused another big wreck (after the race, mind you) all because she overreacted. Both hit the wall, and still finished in about the same position they would have finished in. So what does Patrick do once the checkered flag flies. Patrick and Hornish got together at the end of the race in what appeared to be nothing more then a Talladega incident. She drives up to the back of Hornish, rides him for a few feet and then wrecks him into the wall. Bumping Hornish a few times down the backstretch and having “the talk” afterwards would have been enough to show displeasure. The other big story, other then Logano beating out Busch for the win, is Danica Patrick again showing that she loves to give women an bad name.
