Save $$$$$ Fix your brakes yourself
This is to ABS what the other Code Scan tools are for your engine. It gives you historical codes and current codes so you can get a good over all picture of whats happening. You must have a basic understanding of ABS and the Sensors / Components that make up the system. If you do then this is the tool that will save you a fortune by not having to take your vehicle to a dealer! If you have no idea of how ABS works, keep taking your car to the dealer or learn fast so you can save! Only possible complaint some may have is that the tool will not reset the ABS light like you can with the Check Engine light with the other scan tools. Me personally, I want to see the historical codes so that I can ascertain if a problem is intermittant or not. Once you repair what is wrong your lignt will go out anyway. Most ABS computers reset themselves each time you start your car. The Light comes on for a reason!

Well worth every penny!
I have a 2003 Buick Century. An intermittent ABS failure on it had been frustrating me for a couple of years, but when the problem would not clear by my previous method of cleaning the harness connections, I decided to take the car to to a repair facility. This repair shop troubleshot the problem to a bad wire in the left harness, but I had always been able to fix the failure by cleaning the contacts on the right side connections at the wheel. This shop said they didn't feel comfortable trying to repair the problem. I took the car to a second shop that kept the car almost a month and said they couldn't find anything wrong except for a possible broken wire on the left side. They too were reluctant to attempt a repair. Neither shop charged me for the troubleshooting--I guess it's because they didn't want to attempt the repairs. I took matters into my own hands and opened the left harness. I found a broken wire about 6 inches from the hub and spliced it back together. The ABS...

Dorman ABS Sensor
This sensor is nearly identical to 970-041. You can purchase two of either one if you carefully remove the old retaining clips and re-use them. Relatively easy to install, but drivers side has less space to work in.

Easy to use reader.
I use it on my 1987 IROC Camaro which has two methods of diagnosing the Engine lights. One is a jumper cable, the other is using a tool such as this. All I have to do is pop it in, turn the key to ON, and read the codes. Very simple, very light, does not require a degree to use. The booklet that comes with it has a list of codes, their descriptions, and how to start collect the codes from the ECU. However, any GM car repair manual will/should have the same list. It is cheap, and it does what I need it to do.

Nice gadget
This product is handy to have to locate a source of a "Service Engine Soon" light. It merely grounds the ECM engine pin or the ABS brake pin which are located in the diagonsitc port under the dash and causes the SES light to flash the ECM codes. A paper clip can do the same thing but the GM Code Reader is better because it a accurate and positive fit. The GM Code Reader will only indicate the ECM code and will not tell you anything else after the SES light is seen. Then you must determine what is causing the code to appear. This product is a OBD-1 Code Reader for 1982-1993/4 vehicles and is not the OBD-2 Code Scanner that must be used on the 1995 and later vehicles. The latter has a screen and gives more information with the code. Using the GM Code Reader is a fifteen minute job and gives you a good starting point for locating the trouble and saves you $90 or more by not requiring a so-called "professional" auto mechanic do it for you. Good for what its worth
It is a great tool for what it does. It is very simple and compact and light. It will flash the light on the dash and give you a flashing code that you look up but you might be surprised to know that all you really need is a paper clip and the knowledge of which 2 pins in the OBD1 connector to short together and you will save money. Please be sure you know which 2 pins before you try anything maybe even if you have a technician that you know or go to could give you some incite but they might not. The pins that must touch for engine codes are A and B. For ABS(anti-lock braking system) you must touch pins A and H. Hope this helps you in your diagnosis.

Also, when I press the break pedal I hear a low grinding in the break pump and/or the ABS system, I'm not sure which. I was driving in the snow and my ABS were working fine, until one day, when they stopped and the little light for the ABS in my Chevy Cavalier 1998 lit up. I knew how to stop without the ABS, so I kept driving.

As the wheel speed comes almost to a stop a sensor will drop out and give the ABS computer a false lockup. If you feel the ABS kick on you will see one of the graphs fall to zero thats your sensor that will need to be replaced. I've had good luck by going for a drive with the scan tool attached with all 4 sensors in a graph start recording and drive around the block. It would be hard to believe that the sensor is failing only when almost stopped and causing the pump to run. So I would assume, if a sensor was bad and went down to "zero" rpms while driving, that there would be a code. The problem I am assuming was before I replaced the front brakes.
