Excellent info for inline 6 cyl builders, street or race
I am very pleased with the book, it delivered just the things promised and what I was looking for. This is not a basic rebuild book, for that you should get a different book. This one goes beyond rebuilding, into the high performance modification realm. Gives you different recipes for different grades of power mods, from mild dtreet to race, and even turbocharging which was very useful for me. It tells you the pitfalls and weak spots and what to do about them to make your engine last. Worth every penny.

An excellent resource for the I6
This is an excellent second edition, in my opinion. I had picked up a copy of the first edition a couple of years ago, and it seemed a bit "dated". It seems this one is more current with some fresh ideas regarding the nearly limitless options for the GM I6. Although my I6 250 is completed, I will always keep this manual close to my desk for "eye candy". Great job on this edition.

Incredible book!
This book is a must have for the small-block enthusiast. Even if you don't modify cylinder heads, there is an incredible amount of cylinder head flow data that alone makes the purchase worthwhile.

Product Description

Any professional performance engine builder will likely tell you the most powerful and important components in an engine are cylinder heads. High-Performance Chevy Small-Block Cylinder Heads shows you how to choose the best cylinder heads for your application. It covers both Gen I and Gen II small-block Chevys, occasionally touching on the Gen III and Gen IV engines. The book taps into some of the best small-block Chevy cylinder head resources this country has to offer to distill valuable information on port design and airflow management.
This book is designed exactly like its predecessor, High-Performance Chevy Small-Block Cams & Valvetrains, in that it starts with the basics and works into more in-depth concepts and variables in an attempt to uncover all those subtle nuances that make power in the small-block Chevy. It features airflow basics, extensive flow bench tests (using the SuperFlow 600 bench), information on production and aftermarket heads, rebuilding and assembly instruction, and basic porting techniques. Very good reference for cylinder heads
This is not the equivalent of a David Vizard book on content, but it is still a very good quality reference for cylinder heads that is very up-to-date as of 2010. It provides very useful data on each head and also provides very handy ways to make practical comparisons between the heads. The photos and quality of presentation are excellent. This book would be very useful to someone interested in building a Chevy small-block and has not yet chosen cylinder heads.

Worth the time and money!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It opened up my eyes to how valve trains work, and how you can maximize their productivity. You can read and re-read over again as you work on your cylinder heads to get the most out of them. Keep in mind this information is somewhat dated, but nevertheless very helpful. I hope you enjoy it like I did. Dan

Vizard does it again
As with many of David Vizards books this one exceeded my expectations. It opened new avenues of thought regarding head modifications and then proceeded to explore those avenues thoroughly. Mr. Vizard is one of the few that shares his knowledge in a manner that very few do. To many "experts" under estimate our ability to learn and understand, or else they don't want to go through the bother. Mr. Vizard does so in a very convincing manner. Thanks for all the horsepower, torque, and reliability, David. This book covered porting, hardware, modification in your own shop, and can be utilized to any level you wish. I keep returning to it to advance in my own practice.

A must have item, very thorough and very interesting reading
I have been searching for a book like this for years! It contains everything you need to know to be able to successfully port your own cyclinder heads. David Vizard has done an excellent job of explaining, in a language that most people should be able to understand, the principles of cyclinder head design and how they function. I HIGHLY recommend this book, and all other books David has written (I own all of his books, and not one has disappointed me).Ernst denBroeder

Slightly outdated but exceptional information
The book is very well written and understandable. The illustrations and photographs are top notch. I would recommend this book to anyone seeking knowledge about cylinder heads and the modification there of. Many of the techniques illustrated in this book can be applied to other types of cylinder heads with favorable results. I would like to see an update to this book that would include porting information on some of the many new cylinder heads and manufacturers that have hit the market since this book was published.

Super guide for GM gearheads!!!
I work in a full line GM dealership and we have a copy of this and it's worn out from using as help to find parts and to see who's got what for sale when all they can tell you is a casting or part number. This guy did tons of homework on this book BEFORE he printed one.

Very good, best of what is available.
Good detail not only on VIN's but cylinder heads, engine blocks, etc. Only other comparable book is Chevy Small Block Engine ID - but this is better.

Product Description

"Chevrolet by the Numbers" is the only authoritative reference for identifying and verifying the correct Chevrolet parts, by casting number, for your exact model.

-Restoring your Chevrolet to original factory specifications? You'll find the casting numbers that correspond to your car's Vehicle Identification Number. With this correct information you will avoid buying - and being sold - the wrong parts.

-Buying a Chevrolet that has been restored? These numbers will help you determine whether or not the car has been authentically restored, and whether it's a smart investment.

-Searching for factory high-performance parts at swap meets? "Chevrolet by the Numbers" tells you which parts to look for, why they are special, and which engines those parts came with.

Other books rely on secondhand information or out-of-date part numbers. Author Alan Colvin documented every casting number for every Chevrolet V-8 engine and drivetrain part from 1955 through 1975, using original source material in Chevrolet's archives, including engineering blueprints, technical service bulletins, and build sheets. He interviewed the original manufacturers and engineers and brings you fascinating stories of parts development from behind the factory gates. Most of this information has never before been seen in public.

This book covers all 1965-1969 passenger cars, including: Camaro, Corvette, Chevy II/Nova, Chevelle, Impala, Bel Air, and El Camino. Engines covered include the 283, 302, 327, 350, 396, 409, 427.

If you absolutely want to know the original parts for your Chevrolet - not what interchanges or fits, but the correct part that came with your car when it was assembled - "Chevrolet by the Numbers" has the answer. Top to learn more

One of the BEST restoration books for your 1970-75 Chevrolet
Being the only restoration guide based on materials from the Chevrolet archives, it is one of the most essential parts identification references available. Information and original part numbers on nearly everything from the wheels to the water pump are explained via well-written text, schematic diagrams, and photographs in 17 chapters (over 300 pages). Vehicle identification and firewall tags are also covered. Engine codes for six engine sizes are thoroughly covered, including the rare 262ci. There are only three complaints concerning the book: the photographs are all black and white, some of the diagrams are rather difficult to read, and paint codes are not covered when the ID codes are explained. However, this restoration guide is a must-have for the serious classic Chevrolet collector.

If the old saying says that three things make a trend, then the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu will be the third 'party' that makes it official. While the Ecotec-turbo-powered Chevrolet sees a (relatively small) improvement in peak horsepower over the old 'six' and beats the new Fusion's estimate of 237 horses, it's still a little off the similar offerings in the Sonata and Optima (274... In the Malibu, the Ecotec will reportedly produce 260 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque and will propel the car from 0-100 km/h in about six and a half seconds.
