Tekonsha for the Long Haul!
Consider this... The combine cost of your tow vehicle and trailer... The combine weight of your tow vehicle and trailer... The fact that your trailer may well weigh more than your tow vehicle... And that moron that just jumped in your lane then slammed on his brakes... This is NOT the time to think to yourself, "maybe I should've gotten a better brake controller." Seriously, when the difference in cost is under $100, is it really not worth buying the best?I've used the Tekonsha P3 for two and half years now and I have nothing but praises to sing! Features, user friendliness, and results! This unit has it all. First lets talk about the mechanism. It uses a digital G-Sensor as apposed to a physical pendulem. Why is this a benifit? Because there are no downhill issues that you see with the physical and analog type sensors. P-3 and the Big Trip
I bought the P3 just prior to a trip to Florida hauling a large dual axle trailer with a 2007 Toyota Tundra. I also bought the wiring harness for the P3 which was designed for the already installed factory towing package.The brake controller arrived by UPS the day prior to my trip and I took it out to the truck to install and quite frankly spent more time trying to figure out where I wanted to put it than it took to setup. After mounting the controller with the supplied bracket I backed up to the trailer and plugged the trailer in and followed the directions to set up the brakes.Everything worked as advertized and it handled the trailer quite well. When loaded for the backhaul to Grand Rapids, the trailer was 10k+ pounds. The trip went well and I used both the proportional and the manual settings to see how they worked. Great Brake Controller
First, this is a great unit and rock solid at brake control. I upgraded from a Tekonsha Prodigy. It's Simple! Just removed the older unit (Prodigy) from it's existing bracket, unplugged the existing wiring plug, plugged in the P-3. I slid the P-3 into the old bracket and inserted the 2 screws. It's installed.Then I just adjusted the P-3 per the included operating instructions. It could not have been simpler.Starting from scratch? About an hours work and the instructions are all there. Most newer trucks come with a trailer harness for a controller. My 06 Chev 2500HD did. However there are instructions for installing it without a dealer supplied harness as well.Highly recommend this unit vs. others.Update: This is a great unit. BUT, other than an LCD screen to provide additional info for the user, the ability to control the braking action is no better/ no worse than the Prodigy I replaced. Wow. Very good price and a great controller!
The Reese Towpower is a very good brake contoller. Don't be chased off by the vehicle application chart. This controller will fit any vehicle, any year etc. I have a 1977 Ford F150 and it was simple to wire into my existing wiring. The directions were easy to follow and, along with your wiring harnes plug at your hitch, a novice should be confident enough to install this in under an hour. I like that the Reese Towpower can be installed in any position under the dash...it doesn't have to be installed on a level plane, and the brake proportion adjustments are an easy dial with your thumb. When I first saw the price I thought this must be a mis-print or a used unit. It isn't... it is brand new just like from a bricks and mortar store. I had shopped around and was prepared to pay in the $90-$100 range at the local national retailers. Boy was I fortunate to search on Amazon...I saved a lot of money! Easy
I had a prewired truck and ordered a prewire kit so I didn't have to cut or install any wires on my vehicle. Once installed and adjusted, the brake controller worked perfectly. I purchased this for a one time use of towing a camper, but it would easily work for any other trailer with powered brakes.

The installation of the Hopkins Impulse 47235 Brake Controller (with the Hopkins 47275 Brake Control Installation Kit) was simple and worked without a problem. The controller seems to work best at the 20% setting for my application, but your situation may be different.

Simple and it works!
I connected this to my 2004 Chevy Silverado, which came with a trailering package. I used the additional jumper cable to connect the controller to my vehicle. This made the job very easy to do. I had a Chevy-supplied pigtail, but the loose wires made connecting it a nightmare. I was able to completely hook this up to my truck, clean up the loose wires and put the cover back on the fuse box in under 20 minutes. I then hooked up my travel trailer and took it for a test drive. The controller has easy-to-read controls and it was easy to adjust the braking input. I'm taking a long trip in a week, and if I change my mind I'll let you know.***Update, March 2012*** I've been using this since I installed it and it has worked wonderfully. I tow a 25ft, 2-axel travel trailer and have never felt that enough braking was not being supplied. I have never had that feeling of being pushed during braking. Good value for smaller trailers
This is my second Reece Brakeman and is for my daughter's truck. The other has worked faultlessly for the past 10 years on variety of smaller trailers up to about 7500 pounds. There are certainly many much more expensive brake contollers out there. Maybe they are warrented for large trailers and 5'ers, but the Reece has worked just fine for me. Note: does not include adaptor to plug in to trucks with tow package-but neither do all of the more expensive controllers. Adaptor can cost additional $15-$25. Overall:fully satisfied/excellent value.

I have one of these controllers and it has worked very well with our trailer which weighs in at a maximum of 10,000#.We have had the more expensive controllers but this one seems to do just as good a job.

Very pleased.
It came a day sooner than scheduled which is always a plus. Brand new packaged securely. The absolute hardest part of installation was figuring out where to mount it! LOL Paired with a quick connect for my Expedition, it took less than five minutes.Adjustment was simple and pretty quick. A test pull with our Weekend Warrior toy hauler went flawlessly.We have a camping trip planned that's about an 8 hr drive. I'll report any issues upon return...not that I expect to have any.Highly recommend!

Extremely easy install with hopkins brake controller
I bought this quick connect harness for my hopkins brake controller for my truck and had this thing installed in literally less than 10 minutes. Truly the ONLY way to install one of these controllers if you have factory towing package.

Great Controller for a great price!
I recently changed tow-vehicles for my 30-foot travel trailer. I installed this brake controller on the new vehicle, because I left my old brake controller with the old vehicle when I turned it in. I was expecting a $100 for the controller, and a $100 install from my service center. However I found this, and love the fact that it displays voltage to the trailer brakes. My old controller was just a dial, and you had to adjust every time you hitched up. With this one I know now that I really want to be at about 6 volts when fully applied.I also took advantage of a deal amazon.com was offering at the time with a discount for signing up for their credit card.I wound up with a brake controller for somewhere in the neigborhood of $20, and easily installed it myself (I'll post pictures shortly) when I was expecting it to cost $200 installed, and I got a much better brake controller than what I left on my old tow-vehicle (now I'm glad I left that one on the old...

Brake controller
This controller works well for the price. After determining the settings (both loaded and unloaded) for the various trailers I tow, setting the controller for each trailer is a snap. The only thing that would make it better was if it had memory settings so I wouldn't have to keep my cheat sheet in the truck.
